On March 19, nearly 75 Charlotte Catholic High School students gathered at Paint Ball Central in Rock Hill for the Shoot Out for Skin Cancer, benefiting the Blumenthal Cancer Center at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC). The event raised more than $2,400 for the Carolinas Melanoma and Immunotherapy Fund at CMC, which supports treatment, research, and outreach prevention programs under the direction of Richard L. White, Jr., M.D. Collectively, the event has raised close to $8,000 to benefit melanoma awareness.
Shoot Out for Skin Cancer, the only event of its kind, was conceived by Charlotte Catholic High School students Michael Ryan and Drew Ryan to honor their mother, Laura, who passed away from melanoma in 2005. Michael and Drew are targeting high-school students to raise awareness and provide education about the dangers of excessive sun exposure as planning is already underway for a new prevention and awareness video.
Thanks to Michael and Drew for raising awareness for melanoma.
