The 6th annual “Our Sister Sylvia Rockin’ for Research” benefit concert was held on Saturday, July 17th at McKoy’s Smokehouse & Saloon in Charlotte, N.C. The 2010 event raised over $5,000 and the event has raised over $40,000 since 2005 for the Carolinas Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. The fund supports ovarian cancer clinical and laboratory research at Blumenthal Cancer Center. Tim Brown, of the musical group The Smilin’ Dogs, lost his sister, Sylvia Phillips, to ovarian cancer several years ago and started the benefit concert to honor his sister’s memory and to help advance funding and awareness of ovarian cancer in our community. The 2010 event also featured a charity bike run with stops at the Whiskey Warehouse, Morehead Street Tavern, Luigi’s, and Tavern on the Tracks. Many thanks also to McKoy’s Smokehouse & Saloon and CPI Security Systems for their generous support!
